Frequently Asked Questions

Can Success Skills Centre help me find a job before I arrive in Canada?
Unfortunately, no. To work, all immigrants and refugees coming to Canada need a social insurance number, a residency card, etc. which can only be obtained once you have arrived.

I’ve just arrived in Canada and I need to find a job. Can Success Skills Centre (SSC) help me?
Yes, SSC can help. SSC helps internationally educated professional immigrants and skilled workers find jobs in their professions by developing their job search skills. The monthly orientations and workshops include practical hands-on experience for:preparing résumés, marketing, writing cover and thank you letters, interview skills, telephone etiquette and job search techniques.

Is there any criteria I have to meet before Success Skills Centre (SSC) can help me?
It is preferred that our clients have to have a minimum of level six (6) of the Canadian Language Benchmark. The program at SSC is free to clients, as Success is funded by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada. The Centre asks that you bring the following to the first day of workshops: your Social Insurance Card; your permanent resident card (or landed immigrant papers), and all of your education and professional qualifications documents (including transcripts or mark statements originals from your home country).

How do I register for Success Skills Centre's Services?
You can register in one of either of three ways: by telephone, by e-mail or in person. When you come the first time, please bring with you the following documents:
- Your Social Insurance Card
- Permanent Resident Card or Landing Paper
- Your résumé (if you have one already)
- Your educational and professional documents, including transcripts.

Do I have to pay any fees to take your courses?
No, the majority of courses taught on the Success Skills premises are free to our clients. Every so often there are specialty courses taught that will have a fee attached. These include: Simply Accounting and AutoCAD.

What about mentorships and internships at SSC?
The Centre's Mentorship Program connects internationally trained individuals to local professionals with expertise in their fields, and provides them with many helpful networking opportunities.
Our Internship Program allows the intern to gain relevant on-the-job training and work experience at no cost to the employer, and for the employer to gain a potential valuable employee.
